(Rights of the child and children’s participation)
Topic: CERV-2025-CHILD
Type of Action: CERV-LS
(CERV Lump Sum Grants)
Proposed Budget: 405 257,26€
Keywords: Promoting and protecting the rights of the child, mainstreaming child rights, Promoting Children’s engagement and participation
Objective: the project aims to foster and support global policies to protect and promote children’s rights, with a specific focus on the inclusive and systemic participation of young people in democratic life at local, national and EU level. In particular, the increase of advocacy and education to global citizenship will be promoted through the development of democratic processes that see children as main protagonists. The proposal is aimed at young people aged 10-18, and was born in response to the need to make young people more cohesive and informed about the values of the European Union.
The data shows that many prefer to express themselves on social media rather than actively participate in elections, but they are also aware of the importance of understanding how the European Union works. Participation in the European elections is still low, but growing, with 23 million young people voting for the first time in 2024.
The project responds to the need to provide young people with tools to understand their rights and influence European policies. The main activities include informal education on European citizenship and rights in schools, democratic participation in civil society organisations and community awareness raising on European values. The methodology involves the use of non-formal education, technology and creativity.
Inclusion is a central element, with particular emphasis on the protection of children’s rights. All activities are designed to be accessible to everyone, without discrimination. The expected results include broadening the competences of active citizenship in young people, enriching school curricula and enhancing opportunities for active participation in democratic processes.
